Moalboal, Cebu has been known as one popular tourist destination in Cebu. This is because of its amazing marine life and not to mention beautiful beaches to top all that. If you have been yearning to enjoy the sun and the sea to the fullest, Moalboal, Cebu would be a site not to miss.
The Pescador Island in Moalboal, Cebu is one paradise for divers. This is because of its beautiful corrals and also varied marine species. This is also where you can be able to experience the popular sardines run.
How to get to Moalboal
The first order of business would have to be on how to get there. Moalboal is 89 kilometers from Cebu. This is before Badian, Cebu where the most popular Kawasan Falls and canyoneering adventure is located and right after Alcantara, Cebu. Total travel time is two to three hours from the city. There are other popular beaches there. One is Panagsama and Basdaku White Beach. These are located around three to five kilometers from the main road.
If you are travelling from Cebu, ride a bus bound to Bato via Barili in the South Bus Terminal. Then tell the conductor to drop you off in Moalboal. If you already have a resort in mind, hire a tricycle or motorcycle to take you there or better yet, hire a van with driver to avoid hassles of the trip.
The trip however does not end there. If you have decided to go to Pescador Island for that infamous snorkeling area, you will need 20 minutes for the boat ride. Boats at this area are some sort of native, a motorized banca. The usual boat ride pickup will be at Panagsama but other boat operators will pickup as well in some other areas too. This is relatively a small island where no one is living. This is the perfect place for diving. Of course, the best way to see its diverse and rich marine life would be scuba diving. You can also go for a snorkeling too.
If you already fill your heart out with snorkeling and seeing corals and small fishes, the next activity would truly fill you to the brim. And we are talking about sardines. There are thousands and even millions of sardines here. Some people think it is just seaweed. Some even exclaim that they would see just a few. To their delight, there are many sardines that sparkle. And too many at that. You can see this even if you are snorkeling. However you can also opt to remove your life vests so you can swim deeper in the water and see more.
With this view, you will really appreciate how the locals are taking care of the marine resources. Even more, you can see how rich and diverse the marine life there is. You will even appreciate how rich our seas are in the country.
The sardine run is just one of the many things you can see while in Moalboal. You can even go turtle watching in Talisay too. And of course swim your heart out. This is truly an experience you should experience. Trust me, this will definitely be one for the books.
