Levels to Experience in Chasing Waterfalls at Aguinid Falls

If you are keen to chasing waterfalls, Cebu would probably be a destination you shouldn’t miss. After all, this is a home of a lot of waterfalls particularly the Aguinid Falls.

Aguinid Falls is located in Samboan which is in the southern part of the island. Getting there is as easy as taking the bus going to Samboan via the Barili route. To aid you with your trip there simply inform beforehand the conductor to drop you off to Barangay Tangbo. This is the jump off point to reach Aguinid Falls.

The beauty with this natural wonder is that the falls provide a lot to experience to new visitors and even frequent ones. No wonder this is tagged as the gem of southern Cebu. If you are still in doubt, here are things you can be able to experience once you set foot in this part of the island.

Walk over limestone

To break it to you, Aguinid Falls is not your ordinary falls. It is very typical for one to hike up and down and reaching the falls. Then end of experience. To appreciate its beauty, you have to climb up and several falls and treks over limestone following the water leading to the fifth level. There are five levels here and each tier is unique. Well, technically speaking there are 6 levels since they started at Level 0.

This level features the smaller water falls, water cascades, a bamboo bridge and nice but slippery rocks. They don’t recommend swimming here as it a bit muddy and rocks are slippery and water is too shallow most of the time even for swimming of kids.

This level is shallow making it the ideal bathing spot especially for kids. It even gets really cold here too. You will be able to see rows of limestone rocks that are placed to make crossing easier. On another note, each tier requires a lot of walking and hiking. Hence, if you are not up to the challenge you can just experience this level or perhaps Level 2.

Level 2’s featured part is the limestone wall and the feature adventure would of course be limestone wall climbing. At first look, anyone may think the stones are slippery but it is not. Since it is too steep, the locals made some holes on the walls so climbers can hold and grip on it. But since this holes are small, just enough for your a hand or a foot, it would really be hard to find especially when water flowing gets stronger. For anyone to proceed to the Level 3, they really have to finish these climb. Most of my friends who have been here, they thought this is the hardest part in all levels.

Personally, this level is the second best. The feature of this level is the water curtain from the nature’s well sculpted limestone rock formation. Most of the adventurers spend a bit longer time here to take some photo’s, mostly selfies. From this level, getting to the next one is a bit tricky.

Here is where all the cliff jumping begins. Hence, if you are a fan of jumping on the cliffs like the one you’ll experience in downstream canyoneering at Kanla-ob River to Kawasan Falls, these would be the perfect levels for you. Level 4 is a 10 foot drop. If you are just beginning with this kind of jump, we suggest the 5 foot drop at Level 3 which is at the side of the falls.

Finally the last tier and also the highest point of the waterfalls. This level will give you a good chance to go behind the falls and is situated at the top of the first rock. But be careful as the path is very steep. Although it is still not slippery similar to the other levels, the thought of falling might scare the hell out of your wits. Not to mention the rushing water that will keep hitting your head and your face. To get you securely there, better have a guide to help you reach it.

Truly Aguinid Falls is a mixture of nature and adventure. This would surely be a must spot to visit especially if you are aching for a sense of exploration apart from the usual spots in Cebu. Plus, so many things you can do while you are it. On your next visit, don’t forget to teak a peek and experience Aguinid Falls.
